Behind an unmarked door on Wall Street's taco truck, companies borrow billions through private loans. The yield is on the menu. The risk is in the recipe.
Taco Tuesday #14
You walk up to a taco truck late at night. The grill is hot. The menu is glowing. But there is one item you cannot order from the front window.
To get it, you walk around the truck, knock on an unmarked door and ask for the shadow menu. Behind that door, companies are borrowing billions of dollars through privately negotiated loans.
Welcome to the world of private credit. It can offer speed, flexibility, negotiated protections and potentially attractive income. It can also carry leverage, illiquidity, valuation uncertainty and default risk, because the yield may be visible on the menu while the risk is buried inside the recipe.
In this Taco Tuesday episode of the Unbearably Bullish Podcast, Donald Johns opens Wall Street's private lending kitchen and asks: who is lending when traditional banks step back?

Private pricing does not eliminate risk. It changes how and when that risk becomes visible.
On Wall Street's shadow menu, the most important ingredient is not the coupon. It is the borrower's ability to pay the bill.
